The 2nd Scrap Recycling and Waste Utilisation Drive took place in Jalna and Aurangabad
from the 28th to 29th of April, 2023. The program kicked off with an industrial visit to
Jalna Steel Cluster. All stakeholders, including policymakers, Government officials,
service providers, R&D Institutes, Academia and Urban Local Bodies together visited
Metaroll Ispat Pvt Ltd Jalna, Bhagyalaxmi Rolling Mill Pvt. Ltd, Rajuri Steels & TMT
Bars Pvt. Ltd and Kalika Steel Alloys Pvt. Ltd. The 2nd day plant visit covers aluminium
industries of S.R Metals and Aurangabad Alloys Pvt. Ltd. The 2nd Awareness Conference on
“Sustainable & Circular Bharat: Towards Zero Waste in Metals Processing” commenced with
the welcome address of Shri Amar Singh, Secretary General of MRAI on 28th April 2023 at
Hotel Saffron, Jalna. On this occasion, the Chief Guest Shri Raosaheb Patil Danve,
Hon’ble Minister of State for Mines, Coal & Railways, and Chief Guest briefed about the
various initiatives taken by the Government of India to promote the recycling industry
in Jalna. Other dignitaries included Ms Ruchika Chaudhary Govil, Additional Secretary
(Steel) , Dr. Vijay Rathod, District Collector (Jalna), Mr R P Gupta, Director (Mines),
Mr Subhash Kumar, Deputy Secretary (Steel), Dr Anupam Agnihotri, Director, JNARDDC,
Nagpur, Mr. Sanjay Mehta, President (MRAI), Mr. Yashraj Peety, Mr. Anuj Bansal, Mr.
Yogesh Mandhani, Mr. Nitinji Kabra, Mr. Govind Goyal, Mr. Shubm Jindal, Mr. Gopal
Jindal, Mr. Shubham Soni, Mr. Vinit Peety, Mr. Pankaj Agrawal, Mr. Nitin Gupta, Mr.
Manish Agrawal, Mr. Divyam Agrawal and Mr. Vivek Gupta. The objective of this conference
at Jalna is to understand the challenges and issues of the industry, showcasing the best
practices of scrap processing at Jalna and Aurangabad clusters where the latter is an
important cluster for the secondary steel and aluminium industry. It also aims to
increase awareness about waste utilization and the scrap recycling industry to create
more awareness and adapt sustainability-driven changes to their production and entire
supply chain which involves all the stakeholders with a commitment to maximizing the
contribution of the metal industry to a sustainable society. Besides MRAI, the awareness
conference is also supported by the GDC Tech Association, National Institute of
Secondary Steel Technology (NISST) and Steel Manufacturing Association of Maharashtra
(SMAM). The campaign received an overwhelming participation of around 300 delegates
including 40 students from Institute of Chemical Technology, ICT Academic Jalana
Students delegation and 35 from MIT and Jawahar Engineering college, Aurangabad. The
next edition of this campaign will take place in Jamnagar, Gujarat in 2nd week of May
2023.
